A Human Rights Imperative
When Women and Girls Are Safe, Nations Flourish
Violence against women and girls is not merely a women's issue—it is a human rights issue, a public health concern, and a barrier to national development. Every act of gender-based violence diminishes the dignity of individuals, weakens families, and undermines the social and economic progress of our communities.
At the Veronica Maina Foundation, we believe that every woman and every girl has the right to live free from fear, violence, discrimination, and harmful cultural practices. Our commitment is rooted in a simple but powerful conviction: when women and girls are safe, empowered, and able to realize their full potential, families prosper, communities become stronger, and nations flourish.
Our work is inspired by the leadership and lifelong public service of Senator Veronica Maina, whose advocacy has consistently championed the protection of women and girls, strengthened legal and policy reforms, and called for collective national action to end gender-based violence.

Our Commitment
Advancing a Kenya Where Every Woman and Girl Thrives
The Veronica Maina Foundation is committed to advancing a Kenya where every woman and girl enjoys equal protection under the law, lives with dignity, and has access to opportunities that allow her to thrive.
We recognize that gender-based violence extends beyond physical abuse. It includes every form of harm that denies women and girls their rights.
Ending this cycle requires more than responding after violence occurs. It requires preventing violence before it begins.
That is the change we seek to champion.
Forms of Gender-Based Violence We Address
Sexual violence
Emotional and psychological abuse
Economic violence
Harmful traditional practices

Prevention First
Building Safer Communities Through Prevention
Prevention remains the most effective solution to gender-based violence.
The Foundation supports initiatives that educate communities on human rights, promote healthy family relationships, challenge harmful social norms, and encourage men, women, boys, and girls to become active partners in creating safer communities. Lasting transformation begins when communities reject violence, embrace equality, and foster cultures built on mutual respect and accountability.

Survivor-Centred Care
Empowering Survivors
Every survivor deserves to be heard, believed, protected, and treated with dignity.
Too many women remain trapped in abusive situations because of fear, stigma, financial dependence, or limited access to support services.
The Foundation advocates for survivor-centred approaches that prioritize safety, confidentiality, justice, and healing. We support stronger referral pathways that connect survivors to the services they need.
Our vision is not simply to help survivors recover—but to help them rebuild their lives with confidence, independence, and hope.
Financial Independence
Economic Empowerment as Protection
Violence often thrives where vulnerability exists. Economic dependence remains one of the greatest barriers preventing women from escaping abusive relationships. Financial empowerment is therefore an essential component of violence prevention.
The Foundation promotes opportunities that strengthen women's economic resilience through entrepreneurship, financial literacy, skills development, mentorship, leadership training, and access to networks that expand opportunity.
When women are economically empowered, they are better positioned to make independent decisions, support their families, and break cycles of abuse.

The Girl Child
Investing in Girls
Every girl deserves the freedom to dream without fear.
Protecting girls means ensuring they remain in school, are protected from child marriage, sexual exploitation, trafficking, female genital mutilation, and all forms of abuse that deny them their future.
The Foundation supports initiatives that equip girls with knowledge, confidence, leadership skills, mentorship, and life skills while creating environments where they can safely pursue education and realize their full potential.
We believe today's empowered girl becomes tomorrow's leader.
Advocacy & Reform
Strengthening Laws and Accountability
Ending gender-based violence requires strong institutions, effective laws, and consistent enforcement.
Senator Veronica Maina has consistently advocated for stronger implementation of Kenya's legal framework protecting women and girls, while calling for greater accountability, survivor protection, and coordinated action among government institutions, law enforcement agencies, civil society, and communities.
Through her leadership as Chairperson of the Kenya Women Senators Association (KEWOSA), she has helped lead national campaigns encouraging women to speak out against violence, promoting public awareness, and strengthening collaboration to address the growing challenge of gender-based violence and femicide across Kenya.
The Foundation shares this vision by supporting advocacy that strengthens implementation, promotes access to justice, and ensures that every survivor receives the protection guaranteed by the Constitution and the laws of Kenya.
Komesha Dhuluma Campaign
The “Komesha Dhuluma” campaign brought together local officials, law enforcement, women's groups, and over 900 community members in a shared call to end Gender-Based Violence and femicide across Murang'a County.

Our Vision
A Kenya Free From Violence
We envision a Kenya where every woman and every girl lives free from violence, discrimination, and fear.
A Kenya where survivors receive justice without delay.
A Kenya where girls grow up believing their dreams are valid, their voices matter, and their futures are limitless.
A Kenya where equality is not an aspiration but a lived reality.
At the Veronica Maina Foundation, we remain committed to building that future—through advocacy, education, partnerships, leadership, and community-driven action.
Because protecting women and girls is not only about ending violence.
It is about protecting dignity.
It is about protecting opportunity.
It is about protecting the future of our nation.
